EU to Approve New Quotas for Importing Ukrainian Agricultural Products in September

Імпорт агропродукції в Україну за рік зріс на 10%.

The European Union will officially approve the update of the free trade agreement with Ukraine in September, which includes a significant expansion of quotas for agricultural product exports. This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Taras Kachka. According to him, the decision of the EU Council will be made in the same form as agreed by the European Commission at the end of June.

What Changes Are Expected for Ukrainian Exporters

Among the 40 quotas for supplying Ukrainian products to EU countries, five will be fully liberalized. These include mushrooms, fermented milk products, and food additives. In four quotas, liberalization will apply only to specific goods, such as grape juice. Another four quotas will be restructured to optimize exports.

A particularly significant increase in quotas is planned for key positions in Ukrainian agro-exports. The quota for honey exports will increase by 483.3% from 2021, reaching 35,000 tons. The volume for sugar will grow by 400% to 100,000 tons. Corn will see an increase of 53% to 1 million tons, poultry meat by 33.3% (to 120,000 tons), wheat by 30% (to 1.3 million tons), ethanol by 25% (to 125,000 tons), and barley by 22.2% (to 450,000 tons).

Support for Exports in Sensitive Sectors

In six product categories where the quota volume will be lower than the 2024 level (including skimmed milk, eggs, honey, wheat, barley, and corn), trade conditions allow for the maintenance of current export volumes. Thus, Ukrainian producers will be able to continue providing stable supplies to EU countries even under limited quotas.

“Out of 40 quotas for exporting Ukrainian products to the EU, five will be fully liberalized (mushrooms, fermented milk products, food additives), in four quotas, specific goods will be liberalized (for example, grape juice), and four quotas will be restructured.
