Ukraine Fully Exhausts Annual Quotas for Honey, Sugar, and Dry Milk Exports to the EU

Україна вже вичерпала річні квоти на експорт до ЄС низки агропродуктів.

Ukraine has already fully utilized its annual quotas for honey exports to European Union countries, which amounted to 3,500 tons. Additionally, the quota for sugar, which was 11,700 tons, is nearly exhausted, and the limits for dry milk supplies are also running out — according to some reports, this quota of over 2,900 tons has also been depleted.

Situation with Egg and Corn Exports

The quota for egg exports has also been exhausted; however, in this case, special rules apply. As explained in the industry, egg exports occur under the EU’s global quota, which allows Ukraine to continue supplying this product to European markets in a more liberal regime, unlike other goods for which additional tariffs are imposed after the quotas are exhausted.

“Eggs are exported under the EU’s global quota, which allows for more liberal access to the EU market than if we had exhausted the entire quota and then paid the tariffs applicable to Ukrainian products,” explained UACB.

Moreover, despite the formal exhaustion of quotas, the export of certain goods, particularly corn, continues. This is related to the specifics of how quotas and liberalization mechanisms operate in the relations between Ukraine and the EU.

Other Agricultural Products: Partial Use of Quotas

Among other commodity groups where quotas have been partially utilized, it is worth noting sugar — nearly 52% of the allocated 4,000 tons has been exhausted, starch — 60% of 5,800 tons, and tomatoes, where the exhaustion volume has reached almost 50% of 5,833 tons. This indicates a high demand for Ukrainian agricultural products in the EU market, but also highlights certain limitations that remain for exporters.
