Ukrainian agricultural products, despite their high quality and strategic importance for food security in Europe, do not have a significant impact on the EU market. This opinion was expressed by the head of the “Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business,” Oleg Khomenko.

Ukraine’s Share in Agricultural Product Supply to the EU
According to estimates, after 2022, Ukrainian farmers faced a number of challenges – from production difficulties to logistical problems, as well as political barriers. Khomenko emphasizes that even under such conditions, the Ukrainian agrarian sector has learned to operate almost without state support, so the concerns of European farmers about the potential loss of subsidies due to Ukrainian suppliers are unfounded.
“And this needs to be conveyed to our partners,” – said Khomenko.
Export Statistics and Cooperation with the EU
According to the expert, the share of Ukrainian agricultural products in the EU consumption structure remains small. In particular, wheat supplies from Ukraine account for only 6% of the total volume of the European market, sugar – 3%, poultry meat – 2%, and eggs – just 1%. At the same time, about 80% of the production costs of Ukrainian grain and meat products are made up of expenses for production means that are imported from the EU. Every year, Ukrainian farmers purchase European fertilizers, machinery, and equipment worth nearly €7 billion, highlighting the close interdependence of the agricultural sectors of Ukraine and EU countries.
