Plans of Polish Retailers for Expansion
Serhiy Kolesnyk, co-owner of the Polish supermarket chain Best Market, announced the company’s readiness to expand its operations into Ukraine. The company’s portfolio includes brands such as Best Market, Foodex24, Foodex Express, and Best Beer. According to Kolesnyk, the greatest potential for the Ukrainian market lies in the Foodex Express store format, which is noted for its convenience for shoppers. However, the final decision regarding the launch of operations in Ukraine will be made only if stability in the security sphere is achieved and the specifics of the market are taken into account.
“As soon as the situation calms down, we will return to the issue of expansion into Ukraine. The potential for developing stores there is very large,” said the co-owner of the chain.
Interest of Western Discounters in Ukraine
Ukrainian analysts believe that the entry of well-known foreign retailers such as the German Lidl and the Polish Biedronka into the Ukrainian market is only a matter of time. Experts note that under conditions of active hostilities, the opening of large Western grocery chains is unlikely. However, if peace prevails in the country or favorable conditions for foreign business are achieved, leading brands will begin their expansion. Despite the war, international discounters continue to carefully analyze the prospects of the Ukrainian consumer market and assess opportunities for investment in retail.
