Влада Бутану продала близько 70% своїх запасів біткоїна

Massive Sell-off of Cryptocurrency Reserves

On April 9, 2026, Bhutan’s sovereign investment fund, Druk Holding and Investments Ltd., withdrew 319.7 BTC, equivalent to nearly $22.8 million. Analysts have observed that these coins were likely sold on the market. Since the beginning of 2026, over $215.71 million worth of Bitcoin has been withdrawn from accounts associated with Druk Holding and Investments Ltd. Notably, $162.64 million of this amount has moved to new, previously unknown wallets, which may indicate asset sales rather than mere transfers or portfolio rebalancing.

“At its peak, the country controlled approximately 13,000 BTC, and since then its portfolio has decreased by 69.6%.”

Trends in Reserve Reduction and Crypto Initiatives

As of April 2026, there are 3,954 BTC remaining in the accounts of Druk Holding and Investments Ltd. The loss of nearly 70% of reserves occurred gradually—particularly large sales were recorded in September 2025, when 3,600 BTC were sold. It is worth noting that in September 2024, Bhutan owned 13,029 BTC. Most of these assets were acquired through the country’s own mining efforts rather than through confiscations.

Despite the reduction in its cryptocurrency portfolio, Bhutan continues to develop cryptocurrency projects. In particular, the country has introduced a special visa for “digital nomads,” supporting innovations in the digital economy.
