The Japanese company Metaplanet has purchased 463 bitcoins for $53.7 million, significantly increasing its digital currency portfolio. Following this latest transaction, the total amount of bitcoins owned by the company has reached 17,595 BTC.

Metaplanet’s Strategy and Financial Results of Investments
According to the company’s CEO, Simon Gerovich, the average purchase price of one bitcoin was approximately $115,895 (17.26 million yen), and total investments in crypto assets exceeded 7.995 billion yen. The value of all acquired bitcoins is currently estimated at 261.27 billion yen (about $1.78 billion), with an average purchase price of $101,422 per BTC.

At the time of this report, the bitcoin exchange rate stands at $114,293, providing the company with an unrealized profit of approximately $231 million.
Future Plans and Market Leadership Position
Metaplanet is actively expanding its crypto asset portfolio. From June 30 to August 4, 2025, the company acquired 3,284 BTC. In its strategic plan, Metaplanet aims to increase its bitcoin holdings to 270,000 BTC by the end of 2026.
According to the financial report, the return on investment for Metaplanet’s bitcoin holdings in recent periods has been as follows:
- from July 1 to September 30, 2024 — 41.7%;
- from October 1 to December 31, 2024 — 309.8%;
- from January 1 to March 31, 2025 — 95.6%;
- from April 1 to June 30, 2025 — 129.4%;
- in the quarterly breakdown from July 1 to July 14 — 24.6%.
Today, Metaplanet can claim the eighth position among the largest public and private companies holding bitcoins in the world.
