Chairman of the Board of BitMine and co-founder of Fundstrat Tom Lee expressed the opinion that a potential rate cut by the U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) in September 2025 will serve as a powerful catalyst for the growth of assets such as the Nasdaq 100, Bitcoin, and Ethereum. He believes that Bitcoin and Ethereum will be able to demonstrate the most significant surge in the coming months following this decision.

Market Expectations for Fed Rate Cut
The next meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) of the U.S. Federal Reserve, dedicated to the decision on the interest rate, is scheduled for September 16-17, 2025. The last time the regulator left the rate unchanged; however, most experts predict a softening this fall. Some market participants even foresee the possibility of a double rate cut, which could lead to a substantial increase in liquidity and the activation of highly volatile assets, particularly cryptocurrencies.
According to the CME exchange, the probability of a 25 basis point rate cut by the Fed stands at 96.1%, while the probability of a 50 basis point cut is 3.9%.
Impact on the Tech Sector and Cryptocurrencies
Tom Lee emphasizes that the easing of the regulator’s policy will benefit the technology sector, particularly companies implementing artificial intelligence. In his view, major market players such as JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs are actively transforming into fintech corporations, utilizing innovations in AI to modernize their businesses.
“It is extremely important for CEOs to be confident that the Fed will lower rates. We know that the labor market has slowed down. This is because businesses are cautious. And this is reflected in the ISM [ISM Manufacturing PMI (Purchasing Managers’ Index)]. This index has been below 50 for 31 months. And this [rate cut] will lead to a significant influx of liquidity,” Lee stated.
The expert also points to historical examples from 1998 and 2024 when the Fed initially kept rates unchanged and then implemented cuts, resulting in significant changes in financial markets.
Lee highlights three main sectors that will benefit most from the easing of monetary policy:
- The Nasdaq 100 index, which includes 100 leading American companies (excluding the financial sector);
- Bitcoin and Ethereum, which, according to Lee, could make a “monstrous move” in the coming months;
- Small businesses and the financial sector, although the main benefits, in the expert’s opinion, will go to technology companies and crypto assets.
Lee stresses that blockchain technologies are increasingly being implemented in large financial corporations, as this significantly reduces costs, primarily in personnel.
The company BitMine, led by Tom Lee, remains the largest corporate holder of Ethereum. As of mid-September 2025, the company’s total assets exceeded $10.8 billion, including over 2.15 million units of ETH.
