Two Bitcoin Whales Activated 20,000 BTC After Over 14 Years of Inactivity

Два біткоїн-кити переказали 20 000 BTC після понад 14 років бездіяльності

On July 4, 2025, two large Bitcoin holders, known as Bitcoin whales, made transfers totaling 20,000 BTC after more than 14 years of complete inactivity of their cryptocurrency wallets. Each of them moved 10,000 BTC, which at the time of the transactions was worth over $1.1 billion.

Transaction Details and Wallet History

According to on-chain data, both wallets received their funds back on April 4, 2011. At that time, the amount of 10,000 BTC was valued at around $7,800, but over the years its value has increased more than 140,000 times. The first transfer was accompanied by a fee of $50.50, while the second had a fee of about $40.

Both movements occurred almost simultaneously, leading experts to speculate that these addresses likely belong to the same individual or group that has controlled the assets since 2011.

Possible Market Implications

The activation of such large and long-dormant wallets immediately drew the attention of the crypto community. Analysts note that significant Bitcoin movements, especially from wallets that have remained inactive for a long time, can have a substantial impact on market dynamics. In particular, if the assets reach exchanges, this could potentially trigger a wave of volatility.

“When long-inactive Bitcoin wallets suddenly start moving, traders prepare for potential volatility — transfers to exchanges can cause panic and sell-offs, while simple reorganizations or movements to cold storage may be entirely harmless.”

At the same time, there is an ongoing discussion in the cryptocurrency community regarding the motives behind such transfers: whether the owners plan to sell the assets or are simply changing their storage location for security reasons.

It is worth noting that similar activity has been observed before: on June 22, 2025, another anonymous Bitcoin whale moved 61 BTC after 11.5 years without any transactions.
