Ukraine’s Balance of Payments in October Supported by Partner Funds and Agro-Exports

Кошти партнерів та вдала експортна кампанія аграріїв підтримали платіжний баланс України у жовтні. Але підсумкова картина не втішна.

In October 2025, Ukraine’s balance of payments showed partial improvement thanks to support from international partners and an effective export campaign in the agricultural sector. According to the National Bank, the current account deficit narrowed to $2.1 billion.

Key Factors of Stabilization

The main factors contributing to the improvement were the increase in secondary income and the activation of trade. Despite a slight decrease in the volume of grants from partners, inflows from international programs, including assistance through charitable foundations, remained at a high level, which significantly supported the economy.

“The most noticeable compensator was the increase in other assistance within international cooperation, particularly funds received through charitable foundations.”

Another important factor was the revival of exports, especially in the agricultural sector. In October, farmers actively exported food, primarily vegetable oils, which was made possible by accumulated stocks of the new harvest. Imports, in turn, decreased due to seasonal reductions in purchases by agricultural producers—the completion of the sowing and harvesting campaign reduced the need for fuel and fertilizers.

Annual Dynamics Remain Problematic

Despite the positive dynamics in October, the overall situation in 2025 remains challenging. From January to October of the current year, the total current account deficit reached $26.9 billion, nearly double that of the same period in 2024, when this figure was $14.1 billion. Thus, the gap between foreign currency inflows and outflows continues to widen, creating additional challenges for the country’s economic stability.
