World Bank Lowers Ukraine’s GDP Growth Forecast for 2026 to 2%

Через скорочення агроекспорту та збільшення імпорту газу Світовий банк погіршив прогноз зростання ВВП України у 2026 році.

The World Bank has revised its forecasts for the development of the Ukrainian economy: in 2026, the growth of gross domestic product will remain at 2%, similar to the expected figures for 2025. Meanwhile, in 2027, Ukraine’s economy may accelerate growth to 5%. Previously, the international organization estimated Ukraine’s GDP growth potential for 2026 at 5.2%, but was forced to lower this forecast.

Factors Influencing Economic Dynamics

According to the World Bank’s analysis, the reasons for revising the economic forecast include a decrease in agricultural product exports and a significant increase in gas imports. In the first half of this year, the value of exports from Ukraine decreased by almost 5%. The main decline occurred due to reduced shipments to the European Union, which traditionally accounts for about 60% of Ukrainian exports.

“Economic growth in Ukraine is likely to slow to 2% in 2025 from 2.9% in 2024, as the prolonged invasion by Russia impacts investment and business activity,” the report states.

Promising Sectors for Recovery

World Bank experts note that during the post-war reconstruction of the country, the main drivers of economic growth and employment may be logistics, energy, and the construction sector. Additionally, the defense sector and related industries are expected to benefit from recent technological advancements and sustained demand, creating new opportunities for the employment of skilled specialists.
