Cryptocurrency Whale Moves 80,000 BTC After 14 Years of Inactivity

неактивний протягом 14 років кит перемістив біткоїни на близько $8,7 млрд

The cryptocurrency market was shaken by the news of the activation of one of the largest Bitcoin “whales” that had remained inactive for 14 years. According to the analytical company Lookonchain, the owner of assets worth approximately $8.7 billion transferred 80,000 BTC from eight wallets on July 4, 2025.

Potential Identity of the Owner and Expert Reactions

Crypto analyst and founder of Timechain Index under the pseudonym SaniExp expressed near certainty that this massive transfer is linked to Roger Keith Ver — one of the early investors in Bitcoin projects and a well-known supporter of the cryptocurrency Bitcoin Cash.

According to him, before the activation of the Bitcoin wallets, one of the clusters conducted a test transaction on the Bitcoin Cash network — less noticeable to monitoring services. This may indicate cautious testing of access. Other BCH wallets remained untouched, which only heightens suspicions, the expert noted.

Concerns About Asset Security

Coinbase’s Head of Product Conor Grogan does not rule out that the private keys to the Bitcoins may have been compromised. He pointed out that before the mass movement of funds, a test transaction was conducted on the Bitcoin Cash network, after which the full transfer of BTC occurred. This may indicate careful and cautious testing of access to the wallets, some of which remained untouched.

It is worth noting that experts have previously observed a trend towards the redistribution of capital within the Bitcoin ecosystem. Over the past year, large market players (“whales”) sold approximately 500,000 BTC, significantly impacting market dynamics.
