Analysts’ Position on the Effectiveness of Sanctions

At the same time, experts believe that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin shows a willingness to endure any new economic hardships. In their opinion, the likelihood that he will agree to peace negotiations under the pressure of tariffs or sanctions from the Trump administration is extremely low.

“If India and China stop purchasing oil, it would be a very strong blow to the Russian economy and military efforts. But this will not happen, as China has stated that it will continue to buy Russian oil,” the specialists noted.

Possible Consequences of New Tariffs and Sanctions

Experts point out that even if secondary tariffs on Russian oil are imposed, it will not only strike the Russian economy but also create a number of problems for the United States. In particular, a potential rise in oil prices will create political difficulties for Donald Trump. Additionally, new trade restrictions will complicate the administration’s efforts to negotiate deals with China and India. In response, Russia may close the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) pipeline from Kazakhstan, which could potentially trigger a global oil supply crisis.
