The Potential of Drone and Rocket Production in Ukraine Could Reach $35 Billion – Zelensky

Зеленський оцінив потенціал українського виробництва дронів та ракет у $35 млрд.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated during the International Defense Industry Forum that by 2025, the potential of Ukrainian drone and rocket production could reach $35 billion. According to him, over 40% of the weapons used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine are currently produced within Ukraine or in collaboration with Ukrainian manufacturers. The government and defense enterprises are working to increase this figure to 50% by the end of the current year.

Growth in Weapon Production

Zelensky emphasized that over the past year, Ukraine has more than doubled the production of self-propelled artillery systems “Bohdana” — from 15–20 to 40 units per month. Additionally, in 2024, the domestic defense industry produced 2.4 million mortar and artillery shells of various calibers.

“We need funding to ensure that all potential truly works. And we are working with all partners who can help provide this. The time has come to launch the export of our Ukrainian weapons – those types of weapons that we have in surplus, and therefore can be exported, to secure funding for those types of weapons that are particularly needed for defense,” said the president.

Export Potential and International Platforms

The head of state also reported that Ukraine has already reached agreements to open export-import platforms in Europe, the USA, and the Middle East. These platforms could start operating by the end of the current year, providing additional opportunities for Ukrainian defense products to enter international markets and attract funding for the development of the industry.
