The Role of Danube Ports for Ukrainian Exports

Deputy Minister of Development Andriy Kashuba noted that despite ongoing attacks on the Danube ports and nearby cities, which have caused disruptions in the energy system and limitations in the operations of the port cluster, this logistical route remains a key alternative for Ukrainian exports. Major cargo owners are already considering the possibility of redirecting cargo flows to these ports, highlighting their strategic importance.

“The Danube logistics route remains critically important for Ukraine as an alternative export route, which has already proven its strategic role. Major cargo owners are continuously planning scenarios to redirect flows to the Danube ports, so it is essential to ensure their resilience, security, and stable operation even under constant shelling,” Kashuba added.

Regional Cooperation and European Funding

During a meeting of representatives from Ukraine, the European Commission, Romania, and Moldova, the issue of strengthening regional cooperation was discussed, and the necessity of attracting European investments for the restoration and development of the port infrastructure in the Danube region was identified. This aims to enhance the stability of logistics chains and ensure the effective operation of ports even in the face of external threats.
