New Approach to Apple Intelligence and Developer Support
Unlike previous years, this time Apple did not make bold announcements regarding Apple Intelligence; however, the company emphasized that it continues to work on generative models. Apple’s Vice President of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, highlighted that work on AI is ongoing, with technologies becoming increasingly powerful and integrating into various services within the Apple ecosystem.
“We are making the generative models that power Apple Intelligence even more powerful and efficient, and we continue to integrate Apple Intelligence into more and more places in our ecosystem.”
Apple introduced the Foundation Models Framework—a platform that allows developers to access the same artificial intelligence infrastructure used in the company’s proprietary products. This opens up new possibilities for third-party applications, providing them with intelligent tools based on Apple’s own developments.
Another important step was the update to Xcode, which now supports ChatGPT, offers new tools for code prediction, and enables voice programming through Swift Assist.
Other Innovations and Operating System Updates
Despite expectations for breakthroughs in AI, Apple reminded users to exercise caution in using large language models. In its own research paper, The Illusion of Thinking, the company emphasized that modern models primarily imitate thinking rather than being true intelligence, as they rely on recognizing language patterns.
The operating system updates encompass a wide range of features:
- Messages now include polls, customizable backgrounds, typing indicators, group payments, and improved spam filtering.
- Real-time translation has been implemented in messages, during FaceTime calls, and regular calls.
- The Hold Assist feature notifies when the caller has returned to the line, while Call Screening asks the caller to identify themselves before connecting.
- iPadOS 26 has received a new window system, expanded capabilities for the Files app, and enhanced audio and video tools for professionals.
- visionOS 26 offers new spatial features and support for accessories, including the PlayStation VR2 Sense controller.
- watchOS 26 has introduced Workout Buddy—an interactive tool for motivation during workouts.
Open beta testing of the new operating systems will begin in July 2025, with a full release expected in the fall.
As a reminder, in December 2024, Apple released new versions of iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and MacOS Sequoia 15.2 with integrated Apple Intelligence features. In May 2025, the company announced plans to update the Safari browser, replacing Google as the default search engine with its own AI services.
