Czech Republic Records Surge in Ukrainian Refugees, Switzerland Eases Employment Regulations

Чехія фіксує зростання потоку українських біженців до країни, а Швейцарія спрощує працевлаштування для українців зі статусом S.

In recent months, the number of temporary protection permits for Ukrainian citizens in the Czech Republic has significantly increased. Previously, an average of about 1,500 such permits were issued each month, but this figure has now exceeded 3,100 per month. According to representatives of the Czech Ministry of the Interior, the main factor behind the increase in the flow of refugees was the Ukrainian authorities’ permission for young people aged 18 to 22 to leave the country. In September, the Czech Republic set a record for this year, issuing 13,500 temporary protection permits.

The Number of Ukrainian Refugees in the Czech Republic is Rising

Overall, the number of Ukrainian citizens who have received temporary protection in the Czech Republic is approaching 400,000. This is the highest figure among European Union countries on a per capita basis. Local authorities emphasize that if the upward trend continues, the conditions for granting temporary protection may be reviewed. The Czech government’s representative for the reconstruction of Ukraine, Tomáš Kopečný, notes that the new government formed after the parliamentary elections will continue support programs for Ukraine, although the format of assistance may change.

“The total number of Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic is approaching 400,000, which is the highest figure in the EU on a per capita basis. The country’s authorities state that if this trend continues, the conditions for granting temporary protection will need to be changed.”

Switzerland Opens Access to Employment for Ukrainians with S Status

The Federal Council of Switzerland has approved new regulations that significantly ease employment for Ukrainian refugees with S status. From now on, employers will not need to obtain special permits to employ these individuals. It is sufficient to submit an online notification of the commencement or termination of employment through the EasyGov.swiss portal. This innovation significantly reduces administrative barriers, accelerates the job search process, and creates more opportunities for Ukrainians in Switzerland. The changes will officially take effect on December 1.
