“By allowing Ukrainian refugees to start working and open small businesses, Poland has increased its GDP by 2.7% in 2024,” the agency noted.
The Impact of Ukrainian Refugees on Poland’s Labor Market
Ukrainians have not only enhanced the productivity of the Polish economy but have also contributed to its specialization. At the same time, the employment rate among Poles has remained stable, with some regions even experiencing wage growth. Analysts believe that the full integration of Ukrainians into the Polish labor market could add approximately $1.6 billion to the economy annually.
Despite the positive economic effects, the issue of social integration remains relevant. According to a study conducted by Gremi Personal, many Ukrainians still do not feel fully integrated even after several years of living in Poland. Only 11% of surveyed Ukrainian migrants believe they have been able to “settle in” the country, while over 80% have stable jobs and the prospect of staying. At the same time, 17.9% of respondents consider returning to their homeland a real possibility.
Increase in New Citizens in Germany
Germany recorded a historic increase in the number of individuals who obtained citizenship in 2024. A total of over 291,955 people received German citizenship, which is nearly 46% more compared to 2023 (91,860 people). A significant rise is also observed among individuals from the Russian Federation: the number of Russians who obtained a German passport reached nearly 13,000, which is 500% more than last year.
