British Manufacturers Warn of Possible Job Cuts Due to Trade Wars with the US

Британские промышленники призывают правительство к торговому соглашению с США

Leaders of various industry sectors in the United Kingdom have warned of potential mass layoffs if the government fails to secure a trade agreement with the US that would protect the country’s economy from American tariffs. According to participants in parliamentary hearings, the situation could worsen as early as the end of this summer.

Impact of Trade Tariffs and Possible Government Measures

Reports indicate that leaders in the automotive, manufacturing, and energy sectors have stated that the number of jobs could decline this summer due to the increase in tariffs imposed by the US less than three weeks ago.

“The trade tariffs introduced by the US have forced some manufacturers to reduce their workforce through employment agencies and temporary positions,” said Steve Turner, assistant general secretary of the Unite union.

Additionally, the head of the trade group Make UK, Stephen Phipson, noted that many companies are developing contingency plans. They hope that the situation will clarify in the coming months and that they will not have to resort to more drastic measures, such as reducing production or mass layoffs.

Government Actions and Support for Exporters

It is worth mentioning that in April of this year, the UK announced an expansion of financial support for exporters amounting to £20 billion (approximately $26 billion). This measure was aimed at stabilizing the situation and assisting those affected by American tariffs.

Experts point out that future policies and negotiations with the US will be crucial for preserving jobs and maintaining the stability of the country’s economy amid trade conflicts.
