Prospects for the adoption of sanctions and the loan
According to Kallas, the process of agreeing on these decisions is currently complicated, but work on them continues. She noted that a final decision on this matter could be made during the next European Council meeting.
“Work is ongoing, but unfortunately, I have no good news today. So we are working, and I hope we can secure this decision at the next Euro Council meeting”
Possible dates for decision review
The next formal European Council summit is scheduled for June 18-19. However, it is emphasized that technically, the decision to provide a loan to Ukraine could be made during an informal meeting taking place on April 23-24, if Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán lifts the blockade of the process.
Additionally, the European Commission suggests that EU leaders may convene for an extraordinary summit before June to discuss energy issues. In that case, topics related to Ukraine may also be on the agenda. At the same time, no final decisions have been made regarding the date and format of such a summit as of now.
