The United Kingdom has introduced another package of sanctions aimed at the “shadow fleet” of Russian oil tankers. The EU, Japan, and New Zealand Expand Sanction Pressure

European Union countries have agreed to extend personal sanctions against the Russian Federation, which were set to expire on September 15. Additionally, EU economic sanctions will remain in effect until January 31, 2026.

Japan and New Zealand have also joined in strengthening sanction policies by lowering the price cap on Russian oil from $60 to $47.6 per barrel, following the example of the EU, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Furthermore, these countries have implemented additional sanctions related to asset freezes and new export restrictions on Russia.

The European Commission, for its part, is considering including several independent Chinese refineries in the 19th package of sanctions against Russia, which will further complicate Russian exports of petroleum products’ access to international markets.
