Hungary May Support Sanctions Against Russia for Refusal to Ceasefire

Угорщина обіцяє приєднатися до санкцій проти РФ, якщо Путін відмовиться від перемир’я.

Hungary is considering the possibility of supporting Western sanctions against Russia if Donald Trump decides to implement them in response to Vladimir Putin’s refusal to pursue a peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine. This information was confirmed by Hungary’s Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.

Szijjarto had previously criticized EU sanctions, calling them “laughable” and ineffective. However, he acknowledged that Budapest’s position may change depending on developments. The minister noted that the possibility of new sanctions would depend on the actions of the United States, which has threatened Russia with secondary sanctions on all Russian oil if Putin does not facilitate a ceasefire and disrupts the peace agreement.

Prospects for International Relations

In response to a question about whether Hungary would support EU sanctions if they became part of Trump’s negotiation strategy, Szijjarto expressed hope that peace between Russia and Ukraine could be achieved, eliminating the need for new sanctions.

“But if this positive scenario does not materialize, we will have to discuss it,” he added.
