Lithuania Strengthens Defense Support for Ukraine

According to Ingrida Šimonytė, Lithuania commits to allocating at least 0.25% of its GDP for the defense and security of Ukraine while simultaneously seeking opportunities to increase this aid. A significant portion of the funds provided—almost €900 million—is specifically directed towards defense needs. In addition, Lithuania is actively involved in the restoration of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, which has been damaged by attacks from the Russian Federation.

Humanitarian Initiative and European Perspective

During the meeting between the Prime Minister of Lithuania and the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenko, a new humanitarian program aimed at supporting children and their families affected by the war was presented. Ingrida Šimonytė also expressed confidence that Ukraine has every chance of becoming a full member of the European Union by 2030.

“We need to learn from your experiences and lessons from the war as soon as possible, particularly in defending against Russian drones,” she said.

Through its active stance and financial support, Lithuania is strengthening its partnership with Ukraine and facilitating its integration into the European community.
