EU Plans Sanctions Against China for Supplying Engines for Russian Drones

ЄС готує санкції проти Китаю через таємне постачання РФ двигунів для дронів. У російських БПЛА знаходять й індійські деталі.

The European Union is preparing to impose new sanctions against China this fall due to its covert support for Russia in the war against Ukraine. This decision follows investigations by Western media, which revealed that Chinese drone engines were delivered to Russia through front companies disguised as suppliers of “industrial refrigeration units.” This way, suppliers circumvented Western restrictions on the export of military technologies.

EU Reaction and China’s Position

European officials have long been aware of the transfer of drones from China to Russia, even before relevant materials appeared in the media. In this regard, 15 EU member states have officially approached the Chinese government for an explanation of such actions. However, Beijing either denied its involvement in the supplies or left these inquiries unanswered.

“The European Union is preparing to impose sanctions against China this fall for its support of Russia in the war against Ukraine, reports Politico. This follows the publication by Western media that Chinese drone engines were secretly supplied to Russia through front companies under the guise of ‘industrial refrigeration units’ to circumvent restrictions from Western countries.”

Discovery of Indian Components in Russian Drones

India may also be at risk of sanctions. According to the Office of the President of Ukraine, Indian components were found in Russian strike drones, including the “Shaheds” and “Geraniums,” which are used for attacks both on the front lines and against civilian infrastructure. In response, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated that the export of dual-use goods from India is carried out in accordance with the country’s international obligations regarding the non-proliferation of military technologies.
