Trump Threatens Harsh Sanctions Against Russia and Does Not Rule Out Restrictions for Ukraine

Трамп погрожує РФ жорсткими санкціям "у разі необхідності". Під роздачу може потрапити й Україна.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated his readiness to support a Senate bill aimed at imposing new sanctions against the Russian Federation if necessary. According to him, the final decision regarding these restrictions depends on him personally, despite the broad support for this initiative among senators.

Possible Sanctions May Also Affect Ukraine

During a recent speech, Trump also hinted at the possibility of imposing sanctions not only against Russia but also against Ukraine. He emphasized that if an agreement cannot be reached to stop the conflict, his administration will act decisively against both sides. At the same time, the U.S. president noted that he remains supportive of Ukraine.

“When I see that we cannot reach an agreement, that this will not stop, I have a deadline in my mind, we will be very tough… And this may apply to both countries,” said the head of the White House.

Trump Administration’s Position and Global Reaction

Currently, the Trump administration is negotiating with Republican Senator Lindsey Graham regarding significant amendments to the text of the sanctions bill, which has already garnered support from over 80 Senate members. The American president expresses concern that harsh restrictions could undermine his strategy for restoring relations between the U.S. and Russia.

Additionally, Trump is not pressuring China to stop supporting the military actions of the Russian Federation, as the U.S. administration is currently prioritizing bilateral economic and strategic issues, while the issue of the war in Ukraine has taken a back seat.

Meanwhile, the European Union is preparing the 18th package of sanctions against Russia, although the timeline for its adoption has not yet been announced. The EU is also considering placing Russia on the so-called “grey list” of countries that do not ensure adequate control over money laundering.

At the same time, the Slovak Parliament recently passed a resolution to lift sanctions against Russia, obliging the country’s government to refrain from supporting anti-Russian restrictions in international organizations.
