Ukraine and Latvia Sign Memorandum of Cooperation in Defense Industry

Україна посилює оборонну співпрацю з Латвією та обговорює можливості спільного використання оборонних кредитів ЄС з Румунією.

Ukraine is actively expanding its defense partnership with Latvia: the defense ministers of both countries have signed a memorandum of cooperation in the defense industry. The document outlines joint work on innovative projects, conducting joint research, as well as sharing experiences and implementing best practices in the use of modern weapons.

Joint Production of Drones and Cybersecurity

One of the priority areas of cooperation will be the establishment of joint production of drones, where the Ukrainian side is ready to share its experience in their use on the battlefield. Additionally, the parties discussed issues related to enhancing long-range capabilities and exchanging knowledge in the field of cybersecurity.

“We are working on developing industrial cooperation. In particular, there is an emphasis on joint production of drones. We are ready to share our experience in their application. We discussed enhancing long-range capabilities. Additionally, we talked about exchanging experiences in the field of cybersecurity,” said Shmyhal.

Romania Demonstrates Leadership in Cooperation with Ukraine

At the same time, European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius noted that Romania has set an example for other EU countries by initiating concrete negotiations with Ukraine regarding the implementation of projects under the SAFE lending program to support the defense industry. According to Kubilius, Bucharest aims not only to assist Ukraine but also to modernize its own defense industry. He also urged other EU states to join similar initiatives, noting that currently 13 countries have already promised to use EU loans to strengthen Ukraine’s defense.
