In the industrial park Ma’Rijany in the Zhytomyr region, the largest enterprise in Ukraine for the primary processing of industrial hemp has commenced operations. MaʼRijany Hemp Company has established a modern production facility based on a derelict flax factory, with a capacity of 14,000 tons per year. The total area of the enterprise comprises 10,000 square meters of production space and 10,800 square meters of warehouse facilities.

The investment volume for the first phase of the plant exceeds $20 million. The new enterprise will produce long fibers for textiles and technical fabrics, short fibers for paper, insulation, and non-woven materials, as well as hurds for bioplastics, building materials, and animal bedding. The first product samples are already being produced for customers.

Last year, the company planted 890 hectares of hemp, and by 2025, it plans to cultivate 1,200 hectares, which are record areas for Central and Eastern Europe. This is the first processing plant in the industry, which is reviving after the Verkhovna Rada approved a law in December 2023 to lift the ban on the processing of technical hemp. The plant employs 200 people.

This year, the agricultural holding Agrotrade also increased the area under technical hemp in the Chernihiv region by 100 hectares, bringing the total to 330 hectares.
