Ukrainian Farmers Will Not Seek EU Subsidies for Polish and Hungarian Farmers

Після вступу в ЄС українські аграрії не претендуватимуть на дотації, які отримують польські або угорські фермери.

Ukraine’s accession to the European Union poses no threat to farmers in EU member states. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Taras Kachka, during his speech at the “Conductors of Change” forum.

“We do not claim the funds that Polish or Hungarian farmers receive. We do not pose a threat to them,” Kachka noted, adding that the Ukrainian agricultural sector, in a broad sense, serves as a tool for the development of European agriculture.

The Ukrainian Agricultural Sector: Role and Prospects

According to Kachka, Ukraine’s role in European agriculture differs from the functions of small farmers in Poland, France, or Spain. He emphasized that the main task for Ukraine and the EU is to integrate the Ukrainian agricultural sector into the common European framework. This approach will allow for the harmonization of agricultural development on the continent and enhance competitiveness in global markets.

Prospects for Ukraine’s EU Accession

Taras Kachka confirmed that 2028 is seen as a realistic timeframe for completing negotiations and signing the agreement on Ukraine’s accession to the EU. Further steps will depend on the ratification process of this agreement by the member states of the European Union. He also expressed confidence in the mutual benefits for both Ukrainian and European agriculture following Ukraine’s integration into the EU, highlighting the potential to become a strong player in global agricultural markets.
