The Chairman of the Retailers Association of Ukraine (RAU), Andriy Zhuk, reported that last year, representatives of the pharmacy retail sector were the most active, accounting for 45% of all new retail outlets. Non-food retail and grocery stores occupied 22% and 16% of new locations, respectively.

Situation in the Electronics Market
At the same time, there is significant competition among players in the electronics market, leading to an oversaturation of this segment. It is possible that in the near future, the number of stores in this sector may decrease.
Impact of the War on Retail
The war has also complicated operations in the segments of children’s and premium goods. Currently, the largest number of stores is concentrated in Kyiv and the surrounding area, where over 5,500 establishments are operating. In 2024, the number of retail outlets in the region increased by more than 600.
Dnipropetrovsk region ranks second with 2,000 stores, nearly 300 of which opened last year. Lviv region also has 2,000 establishments, while among the million-plus cities, Odesa and Kharkiv lead.
Zhuk predicts that after the full-scale war ends and Ukraine joins the European Union, the retail market in Ukraine will grow the most on the continent.
