Details of the Court Ruling and Compensation Amount
The lawsuit against Kolomoisky and Boholyubov was filed by PrivatBank back in 2017. The former owners were accused of siphoning off $2.3 billion from the bank through controlled companies and refinancing schemes that operated in 2013–2014. Of this amount, $1.9 billion has not been recovered. The scheme involved three legal entities from the United Kingdom and one company from the British Virgin Islands.
According to the court’s decision, Kolomoisky and Boholyubov are required to pay $1.8 billion directly, $1.2 billion has been accrued as interest, and an additional $99.6 million is designated to cover the bank’s expenses.
Defendants’ Position and Their Future
The Ukrainian billionaires previously denied all wrongdoing, claiming that the accusations were politically motivated. They contested the case but did not provide testimony during the trial
Ihor Kolomoisky has been in custody since September 2023 on other fraud and money laundering charges related to his assets in the oil and gas sector. He is currently facing a number of charges, including fraud and conspiracy to commit murder for hire. Hennadiy Boholyubov left Ukraine last year, attempting to avoid potential criminal prosecution.
