Network Recovery Despite the War
Despite the full-scale war, McDonald’s continues to grow in the Ukrainian market, demonstrating resilient growth. The new openings not only highlight economic recovery but also serve as a positive signal for other Western investors. Following the onset of Russia’s invasion in 2022, all McDonald’s restaurants were temporarily closed. Some establishments in cities such as Kherson and Melitopol were destroyed or found themselves in temporarily occupied territories. At the same time, the company exited the Russian market. By the fall of 2022, the chain’s outlets reopened in Kyiv and subsequently in other cities, marking a new phase of expansion.
New Expansion and Investments
Among the latest openings are the first McDonald’s restaurants in the Transcarpathian region: in the cities of Uzhhorod and Mukachevo. These steps demonstrate growing confidence in the Ukrainian market from foreign businesses. Andy Hunder, President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine, commented:
“the confidence of American businesses in Ukraine’s future.”
Over the past year, McDonald’s has paid over 60 million dollars in taxes to the Ukrainian budget, which is also an important contribution to supporting the country’s economy.
