This was announced by the Deputy Head of the Ministry, Taras Kachka, during the conference “Trade Wars: The Art of Protection.”

“We are interested in removing tariffs on metallurgy – 25% and 10%. It is quite possible that we will achieve this decision, although I won’t promise anything, as we are at the starting position,” he noted.

According to the president of “Ukrmetallurgprom,” Oleksandr Kalenkov, as a result of hostilities, the Ukrainian metallurgy sector has lost 33% of its capacity since 2014. In light of these losses, industry representatives are appealing to the governments of the USA and the EU to reconsider market access conditions, particularly to extend transition periods and eliminate barriers. Currently, the USA continues to impose a 25% tariff on Ukrainian steel, which was introduced back in the 1990s.

The expert also emphasized the importance of attracting investments from partners such as the USA, the UK, Japan, and the EU. He believes that this could significantly impact not only the economic climate but also the political attitude towards trade restrictions.
