Age Verification and Data Protection
As a result of this collaboration, Bitcoin.com wallet users will be able to confirm their compliance with age or jurisdictional requirements when transferring stablecoins. This will utilize zero-knowledge proof (ZKP) technology, which allows data verification without disclosing personal information.
“The integration will enable Bitcoin.com wallet users to verify certain identification data without revealing it. This could be compliance with an age limit, such as 18+, or a specific jurisdiction.”
Verification will be conducted through independent intermediaries. Importantly, personal data will not be stored on the blockchain, ensuring its confidentiality and protection from potential threats in cyberspace.
Response to Regulatory Challenges
Bitcoin.com CEO Corbin Fraser emphasized that such mechanisms are a significant step for the further development of the crypto industry, as they allow compliance with modern regulatory requirements in various countries. The integration is a response to legislative initiatives in Europe and the U.S. aimed at implementing age limits for transactions involving digital assets.
Both Bitcoin.com and Concordium believe that the new solution may somewhat limit the spread of stablecoins as a convenient means of payment; however, it is necessary for compliance with existing legislation.
In August 2025, Concordium introduced its own age verification application based on ZKP, which is already supported by projects such as Coin98 and Safle. This solution has enabled anonymous verification and payment confirmation without disclosing users’ personal data.
It is worth noting that the Character.ai platform previously announced the introduction of an age limit for participation in open chats, highlighting the overall trend towards increased age control in digital services.
