Users Warned About the Danger
Wallet owners who visited the site during the attack saw a message urging them to connect their cryptocurrency wallet and confirm actions with ERC-20 tokens. This jeopardized the security of users’ personal funds, as such actions could lead to asset loss.
The CoinMarketCap Team Neutralized the Threat
The CoinMarketCap team promptly responded to the incident, officially confirming the breach and urging users not to interact with suspicious elements on the site.
“We are aware of the appearance of a malicious pop-up on our site asking to ‘Confirm your wallet.’ DO NOT connect your wallet. The team is actively investigating the situation and working on resolving the issue.”
After the malicious code was detected, it was removed from the resource. The CoinMarketCap team continues to investigate the circumstances of the attack and has announced enhanced security measures to protect users in the future.
This incident occurred against the backdrop of an increase in attacks within the crypto sphere. In particular, it was recently reported that the hacker group Famous Chollima, linked to North Korea, has become more active. They are using a new Python Trojan, PylangGhost, to target blockchain industry specialists with the aim of stealing confidential data.
