Ethereum Announces Pectra Update on May 7, 2025

Розгортання Pectra в мейннеті Ethereum відклали через проблеми в Holesky і Sepolia

Ethereum developers have announced the launch of the Pectra update, which will take place on May 7, 2025. This update, which developers have been anticipating since March 2024, marks an important milestone in enhancing the network following the previous Dencun update.

The decision on the implementation date for Pectra was made during a call among key Ethereum developers, just a week after the successful testing of the update on the Hoodi test network. This is the third and final test before the launch on the main network, as the previous two tests on Holesky and Sepolia revealed several bugs that prompted the team to postpone the release.

Key Improvements in the Pectra Update

The Pectra update includes 11 key Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) aimed at enhancing the user experience and efficiency of the platform. Among the significant innovations is the expansion of smart contract capabilities for cryptocurrency wallets, which will contribute to their convenience and security.

One of the important innovations for validators is EIP-7251, which will allow the maximum Ethereum staking size to increase from 32 to 2048 ETH. This will ease management for operators working with multiple validators through a single node.

It is worth noting that the Holesky test network will be shut down in September 2025 due to a failure detected during the deployment of the Pectra update.
