Which Blockchains Will Lose USDT Support

As of September 1, 2025, Tether will stop issuing and redeeming the USDT stablecoin on the Omni Layer, Bitcoin Cash SLP, Kusama, EOS, and Algorand networks. This decision means that no new USDT tokens will be issued on these blockchains, and there will be no ability to exchange them directly through the official issuer.

Despite this, the company has decided not to freeze the smart contracts on the mentioned blockchains. This will allow users to continue transferring tokens between wallets within these networks, even though official support from Tether is ending.

Reasons for the Strategic Change and Future Plans

The change in approach was a result of feedback from user communities. While a complete halt of activities, including the freezing of smart contracts, was initially planned, Tether will now focus on a gradual transition and maintaining a transparent dialogue with the community. The company explains its decision as a desire to concentrate on blockchains with high developer activity, scalability, and sustained user demand.

“Tether remains committed to a smooth transition and will continue to engage with the community to ensure transparency and clarity throughout this process,” the statement reads.

At the same time, Tether continues to expand its presence in new technologies and protocols. The company announced the launch of USDT on the RGB protocol, which provides native integration of the stablecoin into the Bitcoin network. Tether’s CEO Paolo Ardoino emphasized that the first cryptocurrency network deserves its own stablecoin, and now USDT will be available alongside BTC in users’ wallets.
