In August 2025, Ukraine saw a significant revival in lending to both legal entities and individuals. The gross volume of loans to businesses in the national currency increased by 19.3% year-on-year, while loans to individuals rose by 25.3%. “In August, net hryvnia loans to businesses increased by 33.7% year-on-year, while loans to individuals rose by 33.3%. Meanwhile, net loans to businesses in foreign currency added only 6.7% year-on-year.”

Businesses Choose Hryvnia Loans

The growth in lending in the national currency can be attributed to more favorable conditions offered by banks. This contributes to a reduction in the level of dollarization of the loan portfolio. The active development of lending positively impacts the assets and profitability of the banking sector, ensuring its resilience to external challenges.

Forecasts for Continued Growth

Financial analysts expect that the high growth rates of lending will be maintained until the end of 2025. The current assessment of the banking system indicates sufficient resilience and an adequate level of capitalization of banks. Despite a situational decrease in hryvnia balances in business accounts in August, bank liquidity remained stable, creating favorable conditions for the further development of lending in Ukraine.
