Support for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency
One of the main areas of assistance is the implementation of the renewable energy program (RES), which is moving into the practical implementation phase. The first tranche of funding exceeds €1.1 million. This funding will allow for the installation of solar power plants along with energy storage systems in six hospitals and schools in the Poltava, Vinnytsia, and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
Additionally, €22 million will be allocated for the modernization of universities across the country with the implementation of energy-efficient solutions. Furthermore, the multilateral donor initiative E5P has provided a grant of €6.75 million to support these projects. An additional €5.52 million will be invested in the renovation of public buildings—schools, kindergartens, and hospitals—with the implementation of comprehensive energy efficiency measures in the western regions, particularly in the Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi, Rivne, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, and Volyn regions.
Moreover, a separate grant of €1.2 million from E5P is allocated for medical institutions in Kovel, Lanivtsi, and Sarny.
Development of Urban Transport and Railway Infrastructure
As part of the funding package, €24.66 million is allocated for the renewal of urban public transport. The funds will be used for the construction of a new depot in Lviv, as well as the purchase of modern trams, trolleybuses, and buses for Lviv, Dnipro, Kremenchuk, and Ternopil. This is already the second tranche of funding for such projects this year.
“Ukrzaliznytsia” will receive €13.49 million for the modernization of railway border crossings and infrastructure, which will facilitate an increase in freight flow and integration with the EU transport network.
