In 2024, the consumption of galvanized steel in the Ukrainian market increased by 5.6% compared to the previous year, totaling 206 thousand tons. This figure significantly lagged behind the growth rate of 2023, when the volume increased by 45.5% and amounted to 195 thousand tons. These data are provided in the results of a study by the “Ukrainian Center for Steel Construction” referencing information from the company “Metipol.”

According to the study, nearly half of the imported galvanized steel in 2024 came from Turkey — 45.6%. Meanwhile, Ukrainian producers supplied only 35.4% of the galvanized metal consumed. The percentage share of European galvanized steel in the total import volume was 13%.
Changes in the Structure of Metal Product Consumption in Ukraine
According to “Metinvest-SMC,” the share of galvanized steel in the total volume of consumed metal products in 2024 increased to 9.9% from 8.2% in 2023. At the same time, in 2023, the consumption of galvanized steel in Ukraine rose by 32% and amounted to 297 thousand tons. The annual volume of polymer-coated steel also grew by 5.4% last year, reaching 292.2 thousand tons, compared to 277.3 thousand tons in 2023. However, this figure is still 20-25% lower than the pre-war level.
According to GMK Center, the volume of construction work in Ukraine in 2024 increased by 15.5%, totaling 204.7 billion hryvnias. Experts estimate that the volume of the construction market in dollar terms last year grew by 14.6% and amounted to 5.1 billion dollars, but remained 45.2% lower than the pre-war level of 2021, when it reached 9.3 billion dollars.
