Ukrainian Flat Steel Exports in January-March 2025 Reached 433.1 Thousand Tons

Ukrainian metallurgical companies increased their flat steel export volumes by 3.3% in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, reaching 433.1 thousand tons. This data indicates stability and growth in the industry even under challenging economic conditions.

Distribution and Main Consumers of Ukrainian Metal

Over 80% of the exports consist of hot-rolled flat products (UKTZED code – 7208), amounting to 357.83 thousand tons, which is 3.1% higher than last year’s figures. The largest importers of this product were Poland – with a volume of 124.8 thousand tons, Bulgaria – 98.72 thousand tons, and Italy – 32.71 thousand tons.

Another 13.5% of the total exports, or 58.45 thousand tons, accounted for cold-rolled flat products (UKTZED code – 7209), which is 13.5% more than a year ago. The main market for this product is Poland – 17.37 thousand tons, with significant export volumes also going to Bulgaria – 8.97 thousand tons and Italy – 9.96 thousand tons.

Additionally, in the last quarter, Ukraine exported 16.51 thousand tons of coated flat products, which is 3.8% more compared to last year. The largest consumers of this product include Poland (10 thousand tons), Romania (4.51 thousand tons), and the Czech Republic (0.4 thousand tons).

Export Statistics for March 2025

In March, Ukrainian metallurgists exported 142.73 thousand tons of flat products, which is 3.7% less compared to last year, but 5.8% more than the previous month. Specifically, the volume of hot-rolled product shipments amounted to 119.41 thousand tons (-5.8% year-on-year; +9.9% month-on-month), cold-rolled – 16.65 thousand tons (-6.8% year-on-year; -24.3% month-on-month), and coated products – 6.54 thousand tons (+53.1% year-on-year; +56.1% month-on-month).

Total revenues from flat steel exports for January-March 2025 decreased by 8.1% compared to last year, amounting to 231.87 million dollars. In March, this figure was 77.89 million dollars, which is 17.9% less compared to the same period last year, but 6.9% more than in the previous month.

According to previously released data, in 2024, Ukraine increased its flat steel exports by 36.1% compared to 2023, reaching 1.63 million tons. Over 80% of the shipments were hot-rolled products (1.363 million tons, an annual increase of 44.7%), while another 12% or 201.71 thousand tons were cold-rolled products, which grew by 0.7% compared to the previous year.
