Huawei has announced the launch of SuperPoD Interconnect — an advanced technology that allows the integration of up to 15,000 Ascend AI chips into a single cluster. The presentation of this innovation took place on September 18, 2025, at the Huawei Connect conference in Shenzhen.

A New Level of Scalability and Response to Sanctions
SuperPoD Interconnect is aimed at scaling computational power for training neural networks and creates an alternative to Nvidia’s NVLink solutions, which have already become the industry standard in high-performance computing. Huawei’s technology ensures fast data exchange between a large number of chips, enhancing the efficiency of artificial intelligence processes.
According to company experts, although Ascend chips still lag behind Nvidia in performance, combining them into powerful computing clusters allows for comparable capabilities for clients working with large AI models. Huawei emphasizes the potential for scaling solutions and building its own infrastructure for artificial intelligence.
China’s Technological Independence and Huawei’s Strategy
Importantly, the presentation of SuperPoD Interconnect occurred against the backdrop of increasing restrictions on the import of American technologies. Recently, Chinese regulators banned leading tech companies in China from purchasing Nvidia equipment, including RTX Pro 6000D server solutions. These measures are aimed at accelerating the development of the national semiconductor industry and reducing dependence on Western technologies.
“Chinese manufacturers have already achieved performance levels comparable to the trimmed Nvidia chips for the Chinese market,” states an official statement from the Chinese authorities.
Analysts emphasize that by implementing its own developments, Huawei is not only compensating for the shortages caused by the imposed restrictions but also laying the groundwork for creating a local ecosystem of high-performance computing. This underscores Beijing’s strategic course toward technological independence and strengthening competitive positions in the field of artificial intelligence.
It was previously reported that Nvidia plans to invest $5 billion in the development of joint projects with Intel in the field of artificial intelligence.
