Zhytomyr Region Holds 20% of the World’s Titanium Reserves and Leads in Strategic Minerals

В надрах однієї з областей України міститься 20% світових запасів титану.

The subsoil of the Zhytomyr region contains over 80% of Ukraine’s explored titanium reserves, which is approximately 20% of the world’s resources of this metal. Due to this potential, Zhytomyr plays a key role in strengthening the defense industry, as well as in the development of aircraft and rocket manufacturing.

Unique Subsoil of Zhytomyr: Titanium, Beryllium, Quartzites

In addition to significant titanium reserves, the region is home to the Perzhanskoye deposit, which is distinguished by a high level of mineralization. Here, it is possible to extract rare metals such as beryllium, tantalum, niobium, and lithium. This creates the conditions for the development of the mining sector and attracting investments in cutting-edge technologies.

Zhytomyr also possesses nearly 84% of Ukraine’s total quartzite reserves, which are a strategic raw material for the metallurgical industry. Furthermore, the region leads in reserves of facing stone (60% of Ukraine’s reserves), as well as labradorites and gabbros, which account for up to 80% of national resources. As a result, the region is recognized as a leader in Europe for the extraction of these materials.

Investment Potential and New Opportunities for the Region

“Zhytomyr is an ideal platform for investments under agreements for the development of rare earth minerals, which Ukraine has signed with the USA and the EU. We aim not just to export raw materials but to create a complete processing cycle. Instead of ilmenite concentrate, we will produce special alloys for high-tech industries. This will create new jobs, attract investments, and ensure sustainable development for the region,” added Bunechko.

With the prospect of establishing a complete processing cycle for rare earth minerals, Zhytomyr is becoming attractive to international investors. The implementation of such projects will not only enhance the economic potential of the region but also promote the development of high-tech industries and increase the number of jobs.
