The American medical technology company Semler Scientific has filed a registration statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for the issuance of securities worth up to $500 million. Investments in Cryptocurrency and Settlement with the Department of Justice

According to the document submitted to the SEC, the company intends to use the funds raised primarily for general corporate purposes, including the acquisition of Bitcoins. Although the exact amount of the future cryptocurrency purchase has not yet been disclosed, it is known that the company currently holds 3,192 Bitcoins. According to Bitcoin Treasuries, this amount places Semler Scientific 12th among public companies in terms of cryptocurrency reserves.

“We view Bitcoin as a reliable store of value and an attractive investment,” the company stated. “It has unique characteristics of a scarce asset, making it a reasonable hedge against inflation and a ‘safe haven’ in times of global instability.”

Using Bitcoin as an Asset and the Company’s Prospects

The company also reported that it plans to use Bitcoin as collateral to secure a loan to settle a fine of nearly $30 million imposed by the U.S. Department of Justice due to alleged violations of anti-corruption legislation in the marketing of the QuantaFlo product.

“Using Bitcoin as an asset to secure a loan allows us to effectively manage our financial obligations and preserve the value of the asset,” we quote the company’s official statement.

Analysts believe that Bitcoin demonstrates high resilience in the context of macroeconomic instability, making it an attractive tool for corporate investments.
