G7 Countries Confirm Continued Extensive Support for Ukraine in 2025

The finance ministers of the leading industrial nations of the G7 have agreed to continue comprehensive support for Ukraine in light of the ongoing aggression from Russia. This was announced by German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil during a meeting of finance ministers in Canada. This decision was made despite previous disputes, particularly regarding the U.S. position on including a clause about “further support” for Ukraine in the G7 joint statement.

G7 Maintains Solidarity with Ukraine

“It has become clear that support within the G7 format will remain unchanged, and that Ukraine can count on strong solidarity and substantial support from G7 countries,” Klingbeil stated.

During the meeting, Ukrainian Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko separately discussed prospects for cooperation with Lars Klingbeil and Canadian Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne. The Ukrainian Ministry of Finance emphasized that Canada and Germany have been leading providers of comprehensive assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war.

Financial Assistance from Canada and Germany

According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance, the amount of direct budgetary assistance to Ukraine from Germany currently reaches 1.7 billion USD, while Canada has already provided 7.1 billion USD. Meanwhile, estimates from the Kiel Institute indicate that Germany’s total assistance since the onset of Russian aggression amounts to 17.3 billion euros, making it the second largest among all countries worldwide. Canada ranks fifth with a global total of 10.3 billion euros.

The finance ministers of Germany and Canada confirmed that their governments will continue to provide comprehensive support for Ukraine, including financial, humanitarian, and military assistance.
