A unique underground hospital has emerged in the frontline zone of Ukraine, which has already saved the lives of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers. This facility, built by the company «Metinvest» at a depth of six meters, operates autonomously and is equipped with everything necessary for rapid medical assistance. The hospital covers an area of 500 square meters and includes a laboratory, intensive care unit, operating rooms, rest areas, and even a kitchen. Thanks to its location and design, it is almost invisible from the air, minimizing the risk of enemy strikes.

Features and Capabilities of the Underground Hospital
The initiative for its creation came from the commander of the Medical Forces group «Vostok» of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Roman Kuziv, who emphasized: “We need to be as close to the front as possible. Here, time is a matter of life and death. Every day, the wounded are delivered to the hospital in less than thirty minutes, where their rapid examination and assistance begins.”
The hospital is equipped with modern technology, including a “medical javelin” — a device for emergency interventions in any conditions. It can accommodate up to 200 patients daily. The medical team consists of experienced surgeons, anesthesiologists, operating room nurses, and drivers who work without days off. Among them is surgeon Alexander Holovachenko, who has over 20 years of medical experience, and anesthesiologist nurse Snezhana, who consciously left civilian practice to be closer to those in need of help.
The first hospital was put into operation in August 2024. The company invested over 20 million hryvnias in this facility: 7 million for medical equipment and 13 million for interior equipment, construction work, and internal improvements. Plans are in place to open two more similar hospitals in May and June 2025, each costing between 12 to 15 million hryvnias.
Social Initiative “Steel Front”
This project is part of the large-scale initiative «Steel Front», which also includes the production of steel bunkers to protect soldiers and special screens to counter FPV drones, which are installed on armored vehicles. Over the three years of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the company «Metinvest» has directed more than 8.4 billion hryvnias to support Ukraine, of which 4.4 billion has been allocated for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. As part of this initiative, over 200 buggies for Ukraine’s defenders have already been manufactured, which were recently received by the state border service and other military units.
