The Chernihiv region has almost completely restored agricultural production over the past three years, achieving 95% of the gross level observed before the onset of the full-scale war. Agricultural Sector: A Key Driver of Export and Finance

Agriculture remains the backbone of the Chernihiv economy, accounting for over 80% of the regional exports. The majority of exports consist of plant-based products. By the end of 2024, the volume of agricultural product exports exceeded $800 million.

Compared to 2022, farmers in the region paid 54% more in taxes, and contributions to local budgets increased by more than a quarter – over 25%. State support for farmers in 2023 reached a record high of 355 million hryvnias. The funding was directed towards grants for processing, the establishment of orchards and greenhouses, compensation for the purchase of domestic equipment, loans, subsidies, and micro-grants for business development.

Successful Examples of Small Agricultural Business Development

One vivid example of effective use of state support is entrepreneur Dmytro Hluzd from Chernihiv region. Thanks to the grant program “Own Business,” he opened a mini-farm for raising chickens for sale in 2025. With the funds received, the farmer purchased modern equipment: a granulator, a poultry slaughter kit, nipple drinkers, an incubator, feed, and chicks.

“The farmer has already sold the first 650 broilers. The entrepreneur’s near-term plans include increasing the number of chickens to 2,000 heads and installing a heating system.”

Such results indicate the sustainable growth of the agricultural sector in Chernihiv region and the effective engagement of state support for the restoration and development of businesses.
