The Council of the European Union has decided to cancel all additional checks for the import of beet, sunflower, rapeseed, and soybean seeds produced in Ukraine. This also applies to seeds grown in Moldova. The European Union has recognized that Ukrainian certification procedures meet EU requirements, granting full access for these agricultural products to the European market.

Strengthening Ukraine’s Export Opportunities

Thanks to this decision, companies located in EU countries will have the opportunity to expand their seed supply geography and diversify their production capacities. It is expected that this will ensure a stable supply of high-quality seeds to the countries of the European Union. For Ukraine, this means strengthening its export positions and increasing competitiveness in the EU agricultural market.

Prospects for New Trade Agreements

The EU decision will take effect 20 days after its official publication. Meanwhile, the EU Ambassador to Ukraine, Kateryna Maternova, expressed hope that the parties will be able to conclude a new agreement on trade conditions by the end of summer. The diplomat noted that the cancellation of the so-called “trade visa-free regime” was related, in particular, to the blockage of maritime exports. At the same time, she acknowledged that political aspects also played a role in the decision-making process.

“Speaking about the reasons for the cancellation of the ‘trade visa-free regime,’ the diplomat reminded that the preferences were introduced, in particular, due to the blockage of maritime exports. At the same time, she indirectly acknowledged the political motives behind the cancellation of the preferences.”
