FAO Develops Three-Year Recovery Plan for Ukraine’s Agricultural Sector Worth $193 Million

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has presented a comprehensive three-year emergency response and recovery plan for Ukraine’s agricultural sector for the period of 2026-2028. This document outlines the key steps to support the Ukrainian agri-food sector, which has suffered significant losses due to the full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation.

Support for Farmers and Development of Sustainable Production

According to the published plan, FAO aims to mobilize $193 million to assist 240,000 rural families and small farming enterprises. This financial support is directed towards preserving livelihoods for the rural population and ensuring the resilience of production capacities. Planned activities include providing food for the most vulnerable categories of rural residents, restoring production assets, targeted rehabilitation of agricultural land, and promoting market-oriented and climate-adapted agricultural production.

Implemented Initiatives and Next Steps for FAO

Currently, FAO’s active project portfolio in Ukraine amounts to $25.9 million, of which $24 million has already been allocated for emergency response and operational recovery of the agricultural sector. Since the onset of the full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation, with the assistance of FAO, support has been provided to over 300,000 families and nearly 17,000 small agri-food enterprises. The assistance included the supply of seeds, animal feed, generators, irrigation systems, and other necessary resources to ensure the stability of agricultural production.
