The Agricultural Sector Became the Leader in Losses Among Ukrainian Enterprises in the First Quarter of 2025

According to the results of the first quarter of 2025, large and medium-sized enterprises in Ukraine reported a total financial result of 241.2 billion UAH. This is 12.4 billion UAH or 4.9% less compared to the same period in 2024, when the amount was 253.6 billion UAH.

Main Sources of Profit and Loss

A significant portion of the overall positive financial result was provided by the industry — 91.5 billion UAH, which accounts for almost 38% of the total figure. Another 30.2% was contributed by enterprises in the financial and banking sector, amounting to 72.9 billion UAH. In total, enterprises that finished the first quarter with a profit earned 304.6 billion UAH, which is 4.7% less compared to last year.

At the same time, enterprises that incurred losses recorded a total deficit of 63.4 billion UAH, which is 96.1% of last year’s level. In January-March, the share of loss-making enterprises in the Ukrainian economy was 26.8%.

Leaders in Losses: Agriculture, Healthcare, Transport

The most challenging situation arose in the agricultural sector, where 56.3% of enterprises reported losses (last year this figure was 38.2%). In the healthcare sector, there was also a significant deterioration: the share of loss-making companies increased from 29.8% to 49.7%. In the transport, warehousing, and postal and courier services sector, the loss rate reached 42.9% compared to 38.6% in the previous year.

The worst situation was recorded in agriculture, where 56.3% of enterprises reported losses (last year – 38.2%). A serious deterioration is observed in the healthcare sector – the share of loss-making enterprises increased from 29.8% to 49.7%. The situation is also challenging in the sector covering transport, warehousing, and postal and courier services – 42.9% are loss-making (last year – 38.6%).

At the same time, the hotel and restaurant sector shows positive dynamics — the level of loss-making enterprises decreased from 64.1% to 29.7%.
