New Data Centers and Jobs

The main goal of this large-scale project is the construction of new data processing centers that will ensure innovative development in AI and cloud computing. These investments will create at least 500 high-paying technical jobs in the region: Amazon plans to hire data center engineers, network specialists, infrastructure operations managers, security experts, and other specialized professionals. Additionally, the establishment of data processing centers will lead to new job opportunities in the construction industry and related sectors. The project will also stimulate economic development in North Carolina and enhance the state’s competitiveness in technology.

“AI is changing the way we work and innovate, and I am pleased that North Carolina will remain at the forefront of technological progress thanks to companies like Amazon. Amazon’s investment is one of the largest in the state’s history,” said Governor Josh Stein.

Additional Educational Initiatives and Preliminary Impact

Amazon emphasizes that the rapid growth of generative AI is creating demand for high-performance cloud solutions. As part of a new initiative, the company will launch professional training programs and educational courses: from training data center technicians to workshops on fiber optic welding, as well as educational initiatives for teachers and students to help prepare youth for careers in technology.

Since 2010, Amazon has already invested $12 billion in North Carolina, contributing to a $13.1 billion increase in the state’s GDP and supporting over 50,000 jobs. Of these, 24,000 jobs were created directly within the company, while another 26,000 were in related industries.

This year, Amazon also introduced the Vulcan robot to automate warehouse processes and entered into a licensing agreement with The New York Times for the use of editorial content to develop AI platforms.
