How the Largest Grocery Chains in Ukraine Developed in 2024

In 2024, the largest grocery retailers in Ukraine continued to actively develop and expand their networks. The leader in the number of stores was the chain «ATB», which had 1,257 stores by the end of the year. Over the year, the company opened 47 new outlets and renovated 11 locations, strengthening its market position.

Interim Results of Other Major Retailers

In second place was the «Fozzy Group», which opened 84 stores and closed 32 in 2024. As a result, the total number of outlets for the chains “Silpo”, “Fora”, and others reached 826, which is over a hundred more than pre-war figures.

The third largest was the «Clever Stores» chain, which opened 87 new stores, bringing their total to 315 outlets.

Expansion of Other Chains

The VolWest Group, which manages the «Nash Krai» and SPAR chains under a franchising model, added 28 stores in 2024. By the end of the year, there were 276. The «Myasomarket» chain, developed by the agricultural holding MHP, also made it into the top five. Over the year, it opened 32 stores, bringing the total number of outlets to 273.

The distribution of new stores by region shows that the most openings occurred in western Ukraine — about 36.8%. In the capital and Kyiv region, 24% of new stores opened, while in central regions, it was 22%. Fewer openings were in the northern and southern regions, with 7.6% and 7.9% respectively. Only 1.7% of new outlets were opened in the eastern part of the country.
